Although our homes have been called iconic, our work is not about designing the home itself — it’s about taking our clients on the journey of discovering their dreams and wants. And then translating those discoveries into a space that reflects their views of themselves and the world around them.

It all starts with a conversation. We listen to them. We learn about their world travels, their passions and pastimes. We look at designs that inspire them. We want to know what motivates them.

We may learn about an eclectic collection of art that was gathered during travels, or we may hear about their professional successes or personal aspirations. We may even learn about their quirks.

The details are unique to each client but the end result is the same — we learn about the things that influence them, as well as their lifestyle and preferences. It’s a process that starts from the inside out to understand the people first, and the spaces second.

Out of this process comes a design program that will guide our work. And just as important, this journey allows the clients to build trust in us. With that trust, they feel comfortable to give us the artistic freedom that we need to create the environment that’s uniquely suited to them and reflects their voice.

During one such journey for a recent project, we learned about the clients’ passion to spend time with their extensive social circle. They wanted a balance between their passion to entertain and their need for quiet, family time.

A vision began to take shape that was inspired not only by their lifestyles but also their world travels. With that in mind, we went to work — creating a concept that was responsive both to their vision and their budget.

The living room answers their desire for a place suited both for family and for entertainment. It takes advantage of the gorgeous views of Puget Sound with an expansive window wall that opens onto the deck. A fireplace adds warmth to the room while cozy seating invites family members to sit down and visit.

Our goal is to design a home that’s inviting and comfortable yet presents an element of surprise — and a space that engages both its residents and visitors. Because our clients allow us to follow our instincts and give us the freedom to push the envelope, we’re able to deliver that exceptional end result that’s a perfect reflection of their voice.
